REHABILITATION SERVICES
Different illnesses and injuries require different types of therapy. Medina Hospital's Rehabilitation Services Department provides a comprehensive program to meet your rehabilitation needs. The department provides:
A qualified staff of therapists and athletic trainers perform these therapeutic services under the referral and careful direction of your physician. In addition, the department also offers self-pay programs and community education.

PHYSICAL THERAPY
Patients are referred by their physician for physical therapy because they have been injured, have an extended illness or are experiencing pain. Whether that illness or injury is a result of arthritis, back injuries, stroke or something else, Medina Hospital's physical therapists may be able to help by providing one-on-one individualized care.
At Medina Hospital, each patient's initial visit consists of an evaluation, which may include tests for range of motion, strength, pain and mobility. Since patients respond to treatment much better when they are involved in their care, patients work closely with their physician and physical therapists in planning their rehabilitation program.

INDUSTRIAL REHABILITATION
Rehabilitation Services of Medina Hospital offers occupational therapy and physical therapy for injured workers. This physician-prescribed program is for patients of all stages of rehabilitation. This may be from injury prevention to general and comprehensive rehabilitation of patients injured on their job.
Industrial Rehabilitation Services Include:
- Transitional Work Program Development This service offered to employers, which promotes a highly cost effective disability/risk management strategy that enhances remain at work services.

Transitional Work On-Site Therapies Skilled Physical and Occupational Therapists are utilized to evaluate and treat injured employee on the job sight to prevent unproductive work habits with traveling to and from clinics and to increase functionality of therapy.

Functional Capacity Evaluations these comprehensive evaluations are completed by both a physical and occupational therapist to gather data regarding tolerance to work specific tasks, lifting capacities and consistency of effort to help determine employability.

Work Conditioning This is an intense goal-oriented program designed to address functional limitations to return patients to work safely. Patients participate in work specific tasks and functional activities to prepare them for job re-entry.

Post-Offer/Pre-Employment Screens Assesses a new hires ability to perform the essential functions of the job following a conditional offer of employment and prior to actually starting work.

Work Site Evaluation/Ergonomic Assessment/Job Analysis Onsite evaluations can be performed to evaluate essential job functions, workstation, positioning, and body mechanics.

Prevention/Education We provide on-site education to employee(s) on topics including body mechanics, posture, proper positioning, stress management, ergonomics, stretching and exercise, etc.
Patients may also be referred to Physical or Occupational therapy for general treatment. Our goal is to provide symptom control, restore function, mobility and strength to enable the patients to return to work in some capacity.
OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY
Occupational Therapy is skilled treatment that helps individuals achieve independence in all facets of their lives. Accidents and injuries happen without warning. Occupational Therapists at Medina Hospital provide treatment for patients of all ages and disabilities. This physician-referred program is designed to help restore many areas including independence following an accident or injury. Therapists can help patients to decrease the incidence of re-injury, restore function and lead productive lives once again in areas of self-care, home tasks, leisure and work skills.

- Adaptive Equipment Consultation
- Arthritis Education & Care
- Certified Hand Therapy (Specialty of upper extremity rehabilitation)

- Neurological Rehabilitation (MS, stroke, Parkinson's Disease, etc.)

Occupational Therapy is located in the Rehabilitation Services Department on the third floor, South Medical Building, adjacent to the Hospital. Services are also offered in Brunswick at the Brunswick Medical Care Center, 3724 Center Rd, Brunswick, Ohio.

SPEECH THERAPY
If you or a family member have speech, voice or swallowing difficulties, there is a source of help - Medina Hospital's Speech Therapy program.
Speech Therapy offers individualized evaluations, treatment and exercise for:
- Aphasia (inability to use or comprehend words)
- Articulation (word pronunciation)

- Fluency (stuttering)
- Language (proper word usage, English as a second language, idioms)
- Swallowing (a common problem with post-stroke patients)
- Traumatic Brain Injury
- Voice (too high, too low & overuse - common among coaches and cheerleader)
This physician-prescribed therapy is comprehensive and available on both an inpatient and outpatient basis.

SPORTS QUARTERS
There's a difference between an injury and a sports injury. That's why Medina Hospital offers a sports medicine program, Sports Quarters, for educational and therapeutic rehabilitation.
Physicians, physical therapists and certified athletic trainers work together to rehabilitate patients with orthopedic and activity-related injuries soon after they occur. These clinicians understand the physical and competitive needs of recreational, scholastic and professional athletes - and they provide the comprehensive, sports-minded treatment athletes need.
Sports Quarters also treats injuries incurred in recreational sports by young athletes, ages five to 18 years of age.

Rehabilitation
An injury can take you out of the game when you least expect it. Sports Quarters of Medina Hospital helps athletes get back into competition.
After medical or surgical intervention and a physician referral to Sports Quarters, each athlete begins an individualized program of rehabilitation and physical reconditioning. Utilizing high-tech equipment, progressive retraining and a sports-minded attitude, athletes complete therapeutic programs to achieve optimal performance as quickly as possible.
Sports Quarters provides a variety of treatments for injuries including:
- Ankle injuries
- Knee injuries
- ACL Rehabilitation
- Hip and some back strains
- Shoulder injuries:
- Bursitis
- Frozen shoulder
- Impingement
- Rotator cuff
- Tendonitis
Athletic Event Coverage and Education
Sports Quarters also provides athletic training service by contracting with many of the Medina County high schools for athletic event coverage. Our certified athletic trainers provide injury prevention, recognition and treatment at sports practices and games. By providing on-site care, athletes receive immediate medical attention to decrease time loss due to injury.
Community Outreach and Education
Sports Quarters is also dedicated to providing education about injury prevention and care. Some of our outreach services include Pre-participation Sports Physicals, Pupil Activity Validation Clinics for coaches certification as required by the State of Ohio, and Sports Quarters Training Camps available to high school students interested in the field of sports medicine. In this program students are introduced to the basic skills of athletic training through a "hands-on" approach.
